Our Story

Margaux is a little boutique with a big heart, tucked into the heart of Margate Old Town. It was born in 2019 from a spur-of-the-moment gamble — and we wouldn't have it any other way.

From London to Margate

Madeleine spent her career in London's fashion world — first in buying, then building Lapin & Me, a much-loved vintage kids' brand that sold to stores worldwide and had a shop on the iconic Columbia Road Market. After 15 years, she put an offer on a house in Margate, spotted a shop up for rent, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Upping sticks from a lifetime in London wasn't without risk. Margaux opened just months before the world changed — not trading a full year before Covid hit. But we're here to tell the tale, and we're so glad we are.

What We Believe In

Madeleine never wanted to build a trend-chasing emporium. From the start, the vision was to curate pieces that sit well together — things you can weave into your existing wardrobe rather than replace it. Affordable and consciously made, with an eye for European womenswear, homewares, accessories, and gifts that you simply won't find on the high street.

Whether you're a local in need of a retail fix, down for the weekend looking for something to wear that night, or a London regular seeking something you can't find elsewhere — Margaux is for you.

The Boutique

You'll find us in Margate Old Town, surrounded by independent makers, galleries, and the kind of community that makes this corner of Kent so special. Every brand and piece we stock is chosen with care — we only bring in things we genuinely love and believe in.
