Originally used in French bars in the 18th & 19th Centuries, before the absinthe ban, as a coaster, they were also used to indicate the price of the absinthe served. The price printed and colour painted on the edge showed the waitor what price Absinthe to charge, in this case 65cents! Painted in blue and gold.
